First place in this year’s photo contest, Farms, Forests and the Sea: Capturing Natural Cape, was awarded to Ang Foley of Beverly Terrace, for her photo, “Pollack Brook Preserve.” Ang and her family keep active walking on CELT’s conserved lands, and her winning photo was taken during one of those walks at the new CELT preserve this fall.
“Shortly after entering the woodland forest on the path that had serpentined through golden fields,” she describes, “I came across a magnificent boulder wrapped with early-evening sun that I imagined would resemble a sleeping dragon resting his head on a bed of pine needles.”
Second and third place were awarded to Amy Fuller, for “Richmond Island in Mist,” and Nick Pierce, for “Hairy Woodpecker in Cape,” respectively.
The youngest award-winner this year was Ryan Green, age 8, who won an Honorable Mention for his “Shells at Trundy Beach”. Says Ryan, “I like photography because I like getting fresh air and I like seeing all these amazing living species. Photography is a nice way to enjoy the outdoors of Cape Elizabeth.”
Other Honorable Mentions went to Mike Winker (“Lupines on Trundy Point”), and Ed Riley (“Gritty the Golden Retriever on CELT Trails”). All winning photographs can be viewed on CELT’s web, Facebook, and Instagram pages.
CELT offers the photo contest each year to celebrate the natural beauty of Cape Elizabeth, including its conserved properties, abundant farmland, shore lands and wildlife. All ages are welcome to participate, and each year the volunteer judges are encouraged by the many entries they receive from students. They also enjoy seeing the amazing pictures and reading about how much everyone enjoys the preserved lands in Cape.
CELT thanks our judges, and the contestants of all ages who submitted a total of 40 images. The photos remind us how fortunate we are to live in a place with such easy access to stunning natural places.
