Thanks to everyone who came out to Turkey Hill Farm on a gorgeous fall day for CELT’s Fall Gathering and Annual Meeting on October 20th. We were pleased to present Mish Ritchie with the Volunteer of the Year Award, and recognize Alison Darling for her many years of service to the Board of Directors.
Following his talk about our forests’ future in a changing landscape, Logan Johnson with Maine TREE Foundation led everyone – young and old – into the woods for a simple habitat assessment anyone can do in their own yards. Looking around, reaching overhead to frame the forest canopy through fingers, we viewed the woods in a whole new light. Transitioning perfectly, the 7th grade students in classes at Turkey Hill led smaller groups to specific trees they’ve been studying to give their “Meet-A-Tree” presentations. They shared not only the facts they’ve learned but most impressively, how the classes have changed their experience of being in the woods.
Many thanks to Noyes Hall and Allen and Jordan Farm for their contributions to support the event, to the 7th graders who worked really hard on their Meet-A-Tree presentations, and everyone involved in the day!
