CELT has a longstanding goal to help educate the community about local conservation efforts and about the nature around us. For many years, we have partnered with the Inn by the Sea to lead nature walks along their boardwalks and Crescent Beach all summer. The walks are offered one morning each week and are free for any guest at the Inn.
During these nature walks, CELT staff or volunteer education guides tell of the history of Cape Elizabeth, the New England cottontail habitat restoration projects occurring at the Inn, and the efforts to protect endangered Piping Plovers and their nests along the beach. It is always a gorgeous walk down through the transition zone and guests often get to see some endangered shorebirds, or perhaps the Inn’s rented goats eating the invasive plants in the dunes. It is a great opportunity for people who are new to the area to see some of the amazing secrets that Cape holds. Each walk is different, since many CELT volunteers serve as hosts and each has their personal expertise and experiences to share.
