More than 50 volunteers from the community came out to celebrate Earth Day with a whole week of community cleanups this year. Activities kicked off with a rainy Saturday morning work party at Turkey Hill Farm, and continued with the 4th annual week-long community clean up across Cape Elizabeth.
The Saturday event at Turkey Hill Farm had its share of April showers! Eleven folks came together on a beautiful spring morning to clear fallen branches, pull up invasive plants that had been starting to come up, and pick up any garbage found onsite.
For the fourth annual week-long Earth Day Community Clean Up in Cape Elizabeth, volunteers signed up to clean specific roads, beaches, and trails around town. CELT partnered with the Town Public Works to coordinate trash pickup from designated collection sites and transported for appropriate disposal at the Transfer Station.
Many thanks to the over 40 people who cleaned up all across Cape Elizabeth! Over 40 bags of garbage were collected during the week. Some surprisingly odd items that were discovered included a lawn chair, a giant clip, pencils, an exercise ball, a vacuum, and an old metal coffee pot.
Many groups and volunteers contributed to this clean up, which was a huge help. The trails and outside spaces in Cape Elizabeth received a good spring cleaning! We can all strive to keep our shared outdoor spaces clear of waste, reducing litter, and leaving places better than we found them.
