We are renaming our property on Spurwink Avenue “Runaway Farm” in response to concerns from neighbors about the former name, “Pollack Brook Preserve.” Much of what is historically known as “Pollack Brook” is actually on private property, or across the street in the Town Farm parcel. In addition to being potentially misleading, the former name had the potential to inadvertently encourage trespassing, which is an ongoing problem for some of our abutting neighbors.
Runaway Farm is the original name for the parcel on the southwestern portion of the property, which has been owned by CELT since 1988. The Preserve name was originally chosen following the 2018 purchase of a neighboring lot that expanded the property to 50 acres and added a direct connection to the Gull Crest trail system.
Runaway Farm is most easily accessed from the Gull Crest Fields on the northeast side, or from a small trailhead on Spurwink Ave to the southwest. The trails, which are already well-traveled by bikers and walkers, will receive upgrades in the form of new boardwalks and a bridge replacement in the coming months.
Thank you to the community members who reached out about their concerns; your comments are always welcome at CELT. In this time of pandemic-related shutdowns, our staff can be reached by emailing info@capelandtrust.org or leaving a message at (207) 767-6054.
