Three new faces joined the ranks of CELT’s summer stewardship team this week. Hannah Hutchins will be assisting with a number of projects as our full-time Summer Stewardship Assistant. Hannah grew up and currently lives in South Portland, but spent lots of time in Cape Elizabeth, including visiting her grandparents’ house near Great Pond. She is a junior at the University of Southern Maine studying Environmental Planning and Policy after transferring from College of the Atlantic where she studied Human Ecology.
“Like so many other Mainers, I love to interact with all aspects of the beautiful natural environment we are so lucky to call home. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, hammocking, spending time near the ocean, and making art. Caring for the natural world has always been a priority of mine, and what pulled me into this field. I am really looking forward to this opportunity to expand my understanding of stewardship outside of the classroom, in addition to helping with the conservation of land that means so much to me!” says Hannah.
Hannah is joined by two part-time unpaid interns, Madison Evasius and Ella Briman. Madison is a Florida native with a passion for the outdoors. Her previous projects include leading park cleanups and creating a community vegetable garden in her hometown of West Palm Beach. Madison is currently a student at Bowdoin College pursuing a double major in Biology and Environmental Studies. In her spare time (which seems rare these days), Madison enjoys running, rowing, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
Ella Briman is a recent graduate of Cape Elizabeth High School’s Class of 2021. After six years spent exploring Maine’s beautiful outdoors, both a heightened interest in combating climate damage and a year-long environmental science course led to her interest in conservation. She enjoys hiking, skiing, all genres of music, and will start her first year at Dartmouth College this fall.
Thank you to Hannah, Madison, and Ella for joining us this summer! We look forward to tackling some of our most pressing projects with your help. If you are interested in getting involved with our stewardship efforts, please email stewardship@capelandtrust.org.
